1796-1860 John Neagle Gallery Neagle's training in art began with instruction from the drawing-master Pietro Ancora and an apprenticeship to Thomas Wilson, a well-connected painter of signs and coaches in Philadelphia. Wilson introduced him to the painters Bass Otis and Thomas Sully, and Neagle became a protege of the latter. In 1818 Neagle decided to concentrate exclusively on portraits, setting up shop as an independent master. Aside from brief sojourns in Lexington, Kentucky, and New Orleans, Louisiana, he spent his career in Philadelphia. In May 1826 he married Sully's stepdaughter Mary, and for a time the son-in-law and father-in-law dominated the field of portraiture in the city. Workshop of Anton von Maron
Anton von Maron (January 8, 1733 - March 3, 1808) was an Austrian painter, active in Rome. Von Maron was born in Vienna, but moved at a young age to Rome. There, he studied under Anton Raphael Mengs, and became an accomplished portrait painter. He married a sister of Mengs, Therese Maron, who was a painter in her own right. He lived the rest of his life in Rome, and died there in 1808.
Anders Holm
(1751 -1824 ) - Painter is a comedy writer and one of the stars and creators of the Comedy Central show Workaholics. Originally from Evanston, Illinois, Holm graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and the Second City Conservatory in L.A. He, along with fellow Workaholics creators Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine and Kyle Newacheck form the sketch-comedy group, Mail Order Comedy. He also starred in a film, the Legend of Awesomest Maximus.
